I was looking at rental cars last night and stumbled upon something interesting:
This car class is listed as Manual. Now, my first impression is that this is a typo. But, all the other car classes say automatic and have an automatic icon. So I did a little more digging and found a reference to a manual transmission in another spot, all while not finding any that said automatic.
The problem is, I do not think they made the XE in a manual in the US. Furthermore, look at the other details. It clearly says sedan but lists 2 doors. Something is fishy:
Another interesting thing is this: The F-type or similar category
clearly says coupe but lists 4 doors, 5 seats, and an automatic
It seems like their intern screwed up and swapped these two categories. But that makes me wonder “do they have a manual F-Type???” And if I wanted to rent this, would I pick the sedan category that lists details for the coupe or the actual coupe category?
Do you think I should roll the dice on the sedan? It’s only $25 more than the mustang category, after taxes, for the weekend. I would be a little bummed if I paid extra for a base model XE instead of a Mustang. But I would be ecstatic if I got anything manual.
The better option might be to reserve a mustang like I planned, and then ask the lot manager about this magical unicorn rental car. Or I could

.
What do you think I should do, OPPO? Rent the mustang and ask? Roll the dice on the XE class, or go to N ational (for about the same price) and have my pick when I get there?
The previous Mustang I rented. Donuts were made.
For reference, this was listed at the LAX Budget. Anyone want to call them for me?

Typo. Manual in a US rental fleet? LOL
XEs are a thing in fleets though.

That’s what I assumed. Buuut, there are a few rare cases of manual cars popping up. The most known is a FiST or two in SLC and there are a few challengers in Kansas City. Chances are statistically insignificant of finding one, though.

There are a few rare cases, most notably in SLC. I assume this is a typo BC JLR never brought a manual XE over here. I want to believe though!! Either way, I’m prob just going to rent the Mustang and do a few burnouts, for America.

Probably more fun. An issue with cars like the XE in US fleets is that they tend to be really basic spec - so if you want one with manual windows and an AM radio, you might be in luck.

I’m sure this is all pulled from a database to print out an image. Which would make sense why it doesn’t have an Icon. Still probably a typo, but I want believe! haha

Yeah, I’ve been upgraded a few times and they are all lease spec cars. Pretty meh to me. Meanwhile, all the Mustangs I’ve gotten have all been the premium models. So all the gizmos, doo-dads, leather, A/C seats, etc. Plus 310 HP for the EB and 435 when I got a GT, is prefect to have a little fun in. Plus it makes driving long distances if you can make a detour for a curvy back-road.

I find domestic makes in fleets tend to be better equipped than imports, especially prestige brands.
My last Hertz rental had me choosing between a Q50 and 300. I actually picked the 300, as I had long highway driving ahead, and the Infiniti was a banged up 2.0 zero option car.

Def better value for the money. I would have made the same decision. Generally, when I have a choice in the matter, my selection process goes like this:
RWD, decent engine or other sporty characteristic, A/C seats, everything else.
I hate the generic 2.0T’s that are under the hood of every modern luxury car.
